Or a hamster ball.
So Tubbs cut up for the groomers yesterday, as she normally does, but this time they brought a special hamster-ball-shaped device to put on her head to keep her from trying to bite them.
Anyway, I added some loose catnip while stuffing it, and Tubbs went right for it. Actually, first I had to lock myself in the office since of course they both smelled the catnip. However, when the toy was finished, Buddy was too busy hiding from imaginary enemies under the bed, so only Tubbs gave it a test-run.
And it's a hit! Of course it's the catnip that's the "hit," but hey, I just made a cat toy! *Pats self on back* An online friend in Maine is kindly sending me some green felting yarn, so my next grass will actually look like grass. I may even add the eyes.
Nine times out of ten my cats don't pay plants much mind. Every once in awhile, though, there's something about a plant or flower that must really appeal to them. Exhibit A:
Exhibit B:
I bought Mike some roses on Friday. Normally when we have flowers in the house we can leave them on the dining room table and the cats leave them alone. Well, there's something about these roses in particular that makes both cats do bad things. First, Tubbs jumped on the table to have a chew. Tubbs NEVER jumps on the table. So Mike moved them to on top of the TV. Tubbs could never jump up that high. But Buddy can. In the wee hours of Sunday morning, I hear a muffled crash and discover Buddy has knocked the flowers, vase full of water and all, from the TV. Fortunately nothing was broken or damaged, but we had lots of water to clean up. The roses survived .. but now we keep them in the storage closet when we're not home. What a cruel fate for such pretty roses. What possesses cats to risk life and limb for ... a flower?
Yesterday morning the cats spent a nice long time sunning themselves on the balcony. It was actually warm enough for me to not mind having the door open for so long. Tubbs found something most interesting to watch at one end and spent quite awhile watching ... whatever it was. Once the kittehs finally had their fill of sun, we were able to get some errands run. We needed a new shower curtain so we headed to Sears and found one we could both agree on:
Yup, it's for kids. We think it's awwwwesome. Much more fun than a floral design. We actually spotted it awhile ago, but decided to wait for it to go on sale. How can this curtain not put you in a good mood every time you shower?
ETA: Tubbs slept on the highest perch last night, and this morning she was on the one closest to the window. I'm glad both kitties will get use out of it.
Sometimes it feels like every day is an adventure with Buddy. He is so very different from calm, quiet, friendly Tubbs. There is always something new to learn about him. According to Buddy:
- Facial tissues are edible.
- So are random bits of lint.
- Licking water in a wet tub is fun!
- So is licking water in the bathroom sink!
- If the water is running, however, then you must try to catch it with your paws. Or maybe bite it.
- All men are to be feared and hissed at.
- Food dishes are confining. Therefore bat kibble out of the dish and chase it around the floor.
- Mummy is the best seat in the house. Follow her closely around the house. Very closely.
Tubbs isn't too interested in my knitting (unless, of course, I'm dangling a bit of yarn). Buddy, however, very much enjoys it. He enjoys sleeping on it, that is. At first I just thought he liked this afghan I've been working on:
... only to discover it's actually anything yarn-related, really. This is a scarf I wanted to knit today, but he's been sleeping on it off and on all day.
So ... maybe tomorrow I'll get some rows done.
This weekend we had our first snow storm. We got about 15 cm in the city. The cats couldn't go on the balcony without wading through the snow, so they sat on the doorsill instead. Mike was kind enough to shovel it off for them. We did have a few flurries last night, but the kittehs didn't seem to mind, as evidenced by the cute little paw prints.
A gratuitous pic of Tubbs, still feelin' rather playful:
